August 2012

On Tuesday, August 28th, in my devotion time, I began to thank God that this was the day .... 34 years ago, 1978 …. when I was filled with apprehension, my heart was pounding, as I signed the resignation papers …. “Hanging up on Ma Bell” after working 22 years at the Telephone Company. I knew The Lord was calling me to full-time Ministry and even though He continued to remind me through His word that He would supply all my needs, it was a bit scary! But friend, let me tell you how He has done just that! During these 34 years of this full-time Ministry traveling all over the world to share His love .... God has never failed to give me the things I truly need. Let me tell you what I know is true “If I don’t have it …. I don’t need it …. and that where God leads …. He provides …. because the scripture verse God gave me the day I had my farewell luncheon has proven to be true.

Matthew 6:26 -  Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Haven’t you found that to be true also? He promised in His Word to take care of us in every situation, especially in these dangerous times …. there is unrest everywhere …. so we must pray for everything, especially the election .... it is crucial! Please take time each day to do so.

The first weekend of August, I was at one of my most favorites places to minister is at a Teen Challenge meeting .... what a Ministry! It is one I have supported for many, many years. I'm glad that God gave the vision to Dave Wilkerson to have young men come from the gangs, courthouse or jail .... and if they stay for the full program .... and are intently in God’s Word, they will be changed from that old life of crime .… drugs .… addiction .… to a new creature. May God continue to supply the needs of that Ministry.

2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

It was a year ago that my dear friend Glen Rieken went to be with Jesus, we were friends for over 40 years .... I wanted to go up to be with his wife and my friend Bea on the anniversary of his passing …. it was good to see her again …. and to see my former Pastor and wife Kenny and Shirley Foreman …. please remember to pray for him …. he is having some health challenges.

It is always so good to be able to greet and be with my old friends from the church again.

At one of the oldest senior centers …. the Chaplain asked me to come on a Sunday morning …. to take the entire service to speak/sing …. what a blessing …. to be able to connect with that precious group …. I told them about Heaven and hell …. that they are both real places …. but they must be prepared for eternity with our Savior .... I never want to close a service without making an appeal …. that’s what Ministry is all about.

Mark 16:15 - And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

In the early 70's, I was introduced to a fantastic seamstress (my friend was wearing a suit this lady had made for her) .... very quickly, she became my dressmaker, and most of the things that you have seen me wear through the years .... she has made for me. After sewing for me for about a year, she made a beautiful red crushed velvet dress for me to wear at Christmas time. She was so proud of how it came out, she wanted to come to the church service where I would be wearing it when I sang. I saved a seat on the second row for her, she was not a believer and I had been praying for her salvation. After I sang and the message was delivered, the minister said "if there is anyone here who has a problem or something you would like to get rid of .... Jesus can help you if you ask Him to come and be the Lord of your life." To my surprise and delight, my dressmaker, Mary Ellen, went to the alter. She was beautifully saved and delivered immediately from the smoking habit she had had for many, many years. What a wonderful change in her life, to the point that, just months later, her entire family, husband, daughter and 3 boys also surrendered their lives to Jesus and they were baptized as a family at the church. I am so thankful that God used me to introduce Jesus to this family. We will always be friends. She comes down to Rancho at least once a year to sew for me .... I always look forward to that time .... I try to break up her time of intense sewing with fun and interesting things. I have been telling her about something I had attended and she really needed to come down during those two months. And here is something we shared together .... it is called Pageant of the Masters .…  it began 78 years ago. It is held near the beach in Laguna Beach …. an outdoor area of 2100 seats …. it begins at 8:30pm because it must be completely dark …. with a large orchestra. It is “living pictures” …. re-creations of contemporary and classical works …. with “real people” posing to look exactly like those in the original art …. the “real people” have to hold the pose for 2 1/2 - 3 minutes. This year I was seated in the 2nd row .... (dead center) …. and I could even see the people breathing and batting their eyes …. for 76 years, since 1936, they have closed the show with Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” .… awesome! Also another standout this year was the famous marble sculpture by Michelangelo, "The Pieta” (he carved it when he was only 24 years old) .... I wanted to cry as I gazed at it. The Pageant is only July and August each year …. so if you live in California …. please plan to go to experience this event …. and if you plan to visit California, why not plan to come during July and August?

Ms. Lillie in Tea Party Fashion

I love tea parties …. My favorite place to go for a Tea is the one American Family Living sponsors. The Directors, Gene & Evie Wilson always plan a special program.

.… and eat those cute little sandwiches .… the scones .… and lemon curd .… ummmm . The speaker was a great Christian Comedian, Kerri Pomarolli (click here). She had us laughing a lot …. you can find her on you-tube …. and you can laugh also.

Proverbs 17:22 - A merry heart does good, like medicine...

I have been driving a 2000 Volvo for 11 years .... it served me well .... so with nearly 150,000 miles on it .... I felt it needed to be replaced. What a decision! I knew my next vehicle should be one that was easier to get in and out of (because of my two knee replacements). I did lots of test drives .... talk to alot of car salesmen (you probably know what that is like). Finally I settled on a small SUV .... a Honda CRV. What a difference to be sitting so much higher off the ground .... I can see everything around me. The best part is being able to get in and out with so much ease. I do alot of freeway driving .... and I love the way it handles. And I do feel more comfortable on the road in a new car. It was annointed with oil by some special dear Christian friends .... so "I am covered."

Philippians 4:19 - And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

What a day to be alive …. I love the assignment God has given me to carry the Good News to all who want to hear it …. you have been a valuable part of this Ministry. Some of you I have known for years …. others for a shorter time …. and thanks to you who send financial gifts regularly to the Ministry …. others of you pray regularly for me and that is extremely important …. so thank you! Of course, for any gift that you send, you will receive a tax-deductible receipt and it will be added to your account in Glory. I want you to know how touched I am by all you have done for me …. thanks.

Psalms 104:33 - I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

I want to encourage you .... that God is working .... even when we don't feel Him nearby .... we are never alone .... not even for a moment. We simply must believe His Word. It is often easy to let anxiety creep in .... that happens when we have shifted our focus from God to the trials around us. Remember God is greater than any problem we will face .... so let's turn our eyes upon Jesus .... "look full in His wonderful Face .... and the things of this world will grow strangely dim .... in the light of His Glory and Grace" .... I love that old hymn.

1 Chronicles 28:20 - Be strong and courageous and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God, is with you. He will never fail you nor forsake you, until all the work of the service of the House of The Lord is finished.

Until next time.....
Happy to be God's Handmaiden,
